Back in the year 2000, I created my first level for Counterstrike. While designing it, I chose to incorporate a linear path with limited side routes, thereby keeping the focus on the ultimate goal – push up the centre and liberate the building where the hostages are held captive. Once the hostages are rescued, players are required to make their way back to the starting point to successfully complete the mission.

The central building where the T’s & hostages are, stands taller than the CT’s starting point, putting the CT’s at a disadvantaged position initially. However, as they reach the ramp and make their way into the building, the playing field gets evened out, giving them a fighting chance against the defenders.

To make the playing field more even, I made sure that the defending T’s would have restricted views, with smaller angled windows to prevent an overpowering view over the approach. This balance brings a whole new level of strategy into play, as the defending team works hard to hold their position while keeping an eye out for their incoming opponents.
